As the sun sets on 2015, how was your year? Was it a year to remember or a year to forget? Was it a year you are glad is over or a year you wish would never end?
I hope it was a year where you grew wiser, happier, more content, more in love, and with less stuff! Those were my 2015 ‘resolutions’. I gave up making resolutions for a thinner self, a bigger bank account, or achieving worldly success. Maybe my age and perspective on life has changed my resolutions?!? Goals are a good idea but to be resolute (admirably purposeful, determined and unwavering)about something, I choose resolutions with heart. What do you think?
As 2016 is dawning, I encourage you to become wiser by reading a book on a subject you’ve always wanted to know more about – I choose Astronomy for Dummies. Perhaps there is a part of the country or another country you want to learn about through travel or maybe it is taking an adult education or college class.
What would make you happier this year? Think more than a new pair of shoes or a raise at work. I am happier this year by accepting some things I cannot change and practicing forgiveness.
Being content is truly a state of mind. It is very personal and what allows me to be content would drive someone else crazy! I am content in my little condo, working at an entry level position because I see a bigger picture! I now have freedom to pursue other interests like writing, reading more, teaching piano and not being interrupted for work issues on weekends, holidays or evenings!
How can one love more in 2016? Enlarge your circle of friends, volunteer, take time to enrich the relationships you currently have, adopt a shelter animal, or mend a relationship are a few suggestions. Maybe there are some family members you need to get to know better? Some of those things allowed me to love more AND with more focus on others, it does enhance happiness!
Less stuff also enhances happiness for me. I went through the kitchen and pared it down to things I only really use or those items that I have specific ties to (eg. family pickle dish or special crystal pieces). Reducing my clothing to things that I like, that I wear and that fit have organized my closet and make it easier to choose clothes in the morning–enhancing happiness all year long! I have a couple of previous posts that address Simplicity if that is one of your resolutions! Maybe there is just one closet that you need to tackle or a craft room?!?
There are several views of sunrises with different colors, seen through different landscapes. Just as a sunrise will happen each day, a new year will dawn tomorrow! You can choose how you wish to spend the next year. Best wishes for a wise, happy, content, loving and simple 2016!
